![]() Thomas ParkThe other main section of the Eastside is the Thomas Park Area. The Thomas Park area is atop of Dorchester Heights, where George Washington once stood. The granite monument and walkway around the park make it a destination for neighbors and dogs alike. The city and harbor views are second to none from this vantage point. The ride up Telegraph Street to the heights and the streets around represent some of the best revitalizations of homes while still maintaining their character and charm.
The Thomas Park area is a very desirable property being so rich in history and preserved homes. It is the smallest of the neighborhood areas in South Boston. As you drive up Telegraph Street you see Dorchester Heights and the monument, you know you are in the Thomas Park Area. Stately historical homes surround the perimeter of the heights. From this vantage point you can see downtown Boston, The JFK Library, Quincy, the Blue Hills and Boston Harbor. As you stroll around the heights on the walking paths you can see people exercising their dogs or people just visiting. At night the monument is well lit providing a stately site. South Boston High School is also at heights, this school is rich in history also. In 1974, desegregation was introduced and South Boston High School was a focal point during that time, because of the opposition from area residents and the violence that erupted.
